From Kindergarten to School: Support for a Better Start in the Preparatory Class

The first years of education can make all the difference in a child's future.
This year, five-year-old children in the Pirița community are receiving individual educational support and assistance for their families, so that the transition to school can be smoother and more secure.

A Beginning That Doesn't Come Easy

For a child, the start of school doesn’t begin on the first day of the preparatory class.

It begins much earlier — during the kindergarten years, when the first learning habits are formed, along with self-confidence and the curiosity to explore the world.

In the Pirita community, this beginning is not always easy.

Many children reach school age without having had consistent access to early education, or without the support needed to make the transition into a school environment.

This year, the Pirita Children Association has the opportunity to provide dedicated support to five-year-old children in the community, so they can begin the preparatory class more prepared and more confident.

Personalised Support for Children and Families

A key element of this programme is the daily work carried out by a teacher, who works individually with each child.

Through age-appropriate exercises tailored to each child’s own pace, children develop the foundational skills needed for the start of school: attention, communication, the ability to work in a group, following simple rules, and above all, confidence in their own abilities.

For children who have not always had consistent access to early education, this kind of personalised support can make a meaningful difference in how they adapt to school life.

At the same time, the programme pays particular attention to supporting families.

For many parents, the enrolment process for the preparatory class can be overwhelming: deadlines, required documents, assessments, and administrative information that is not always easy to understand.

That is why the Pirita Children team provides guidance, information, mediation, and accompaniment to families throughout the entire enrolment process.

Parents are supported in understanding each step, preparing the necessary documents, and being present alongside their children at this important moment in their lives.

A Natural Step, Not an Obstacle

For children in Pirița, a strong start in education can make the difference between a fragile school journey and one in which confidence, curiosity, and the desire to learn can grow with each passing day.

Yet the transition from kindergarten to school is not the child’s responsibility alone.

For this beginning to be safe and successful, families, communities, and schools must work together.

Only when these three spaces meet and cooperate can children have genuine access to education — along with the support, protection, and security they need in their first steps of school life.

Through the support offered to children and their families, our goal is for the transition to the preparatory class to become a natural step, not a hurdle.

Because when a child starts school prepared, encouraged and supported by those around them, their chances of staying in education and building a better future grow considerably.

Early education is not just about the first years of learning.
It is about a community that grows together with its children.
